Automatic PDMP Reporting

Controlled-substance dispenses report themselves — accurately, on schedule, in every state where PharmaLink operates.

What States Require

All 50 states and the District of Columbia operate Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs). These programs require dispensers of Schedule II through Schedule IV medications — as well as Schedule V in most states, and certain legend drugs in some states — to report each dispense to a database that practitioners, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals use to prevent abuse and diversion of controlled medications. Reporting deadlines are strict, typically daily, and they apply to dispensing physicians just as they apply to pharmacies.

For most practices, that means someone on staff must compile dispense data, format it to the state’s specification, and upload it on schedule — every day, without fail. It is exactly the kind of repetitive, high-stakes administrative work that software should do instead.

Reporting That Runs Itself

PharmaLink’s software automatically reports required PDMP data electronically on your behalf, in every state where PharmaLink operates. There is nothing to compile, format, or upload:

  • As a user dispenses a controlled medication, the software prompts for any missing information, so every record is complete before it is submitted.
  • Dispenses are transmitted to each state at its required interval, typically daily.
  • Zero-fill reports are submitted automatically where states require them, so you stay compliant even during periods with no controlled dispenses.

Your staff dispenses; the reporting takes care of itself.

Accuracy Without the Administrative Drag

Manual PDMP reporting is not just tedious — it is error-prone, and reporting errors carry real compliance risk. Automating the submission removes transcription mistakes and missed deadlines, and it gives your staff time back for patient care. When you need to review what was dispensed and reported, controlled-substance dispense reports — including consolidated reports across multiple locations — are available in reporting and analytics.

Positive Identification, Covered

Some states pair PDMP reporting with positive-identification requirements at the point of dispense. PharmaLink supports biometric positive identification for dispensing, configurable to your state’s rules — see security and compliance for details.
