Prescription medications are the most widely used form of treatment after a diagnosis. PharmaLink’s workers’ compensation dispensing program removes barriers between injured workers and the medications they need — improving the patient experience and outcomes while creating an additional revenue stream for your practice. It works as a standalone program or alongside our cash and carry solution.
How it works
- Dispense in your normal workflow. Our web-based software prompts you for the claim information carriers require, so nothing is missed at the point of care.
- We bill the claims for you. PharmaLink files workers’ comp claims on your behalf and issues payment to your practice in 30–60 days, net of a small billing fee. No new billing staff, no payer phone calls.
- Reimbursement visibility. Workers’ comp medication reimbursements are set at the state level and are typically based on AWP. We have full visibility into reimbursement rates and will help you build a formulary of your most commonly prescribed and most profitable medications.
- Purpose-built tools. The platform supports workers’ comp claim data import, a dedicated WC dispense log, aging and profit reports, and configurable WC billing programs — so you always know the status and performance of your program.
Benefits for everyone in the claim
- For the patient: barrier-free access to appropriate medications with no pharmacy trips or lines, better understanding of medication therapy, improved compliance, and improved outcomes.
- For the employer: a quicker return to work, and increased compliance. Using OTC medications where appropriate can help avoid OSHA 300 reportable events.
- For the practice: the ability to monitor patient compliance, increased practice profit, and higher patient understanding and satisfaction.
- For the carrier: utilization of a generic formulary and OTCs, a single bill for the case worker, and improved patient outcomes.
A program built on integrity
Reimbursement changes in workers’ compensation have incentivized a handful of unethical companies to push products with little or no therapeutic value, engineered purely to produce large reimbursements. These schemes have cost the system millions of dollars and triggered reimbursement cuts and dispensing restrictions in some states.
PharmaLink has never allowed these products to be dispensed through our system, and our customers continue to see positive results because of it. Our billing solution has industry-leading acceptance rates from payors — clean claims that get paid, not disputes that drag on.
A natural fit for occupational medicine
Practices treating injured workers — occupational medicine and workers’ comp clinics, urgent care centers, and general practices alike — can add workers’ comp dispensing without disrupting existing operations. Dispensing a medication takes 15–30 seconds, compliant patient labels print automatically, and PDMP reporting is automatic in every state where PharmaLink operates.
Because the program complements rather than replaces your existing payment models, many customers run workers’ comp dispensing alongside cash and carry or private insurance dispensing from the same platform and the same inventory.
