Physicians in Iowa may dispense non-controlled legend drugs within their medical purview, so long as they meet all labeling requirements and follow all state and federal regulations. Physicians dispensing controlled substances must apply for a controlled substance registration permit and pay a fee (currently $90 every two years). More information on the controlled substance application may be found on the Iowa Board of Pharmacy website here.
