Note: PharmaLink has compiled the information below for reference only. State dispensing regulations change frequently and we recommend consulting an attorney or your state medical or pharmacy board with specific questions or to verify your eligibility to dispense.
Licensed Medical Doctors, Osteopathic Physicians, Podiatrists, Optometrists, and Dentists can dispense in Michigan but must first obtain a drug control license (even if only dispensing non-controlled legend drugs) for each location where dispensing will occur and pay a small fee (currently $91.80 to $122.40 depending on the length of time until license expiration). Providers who wish to dispense controlled substances must also apply for a controlled substance license and pay the fee (currently $93.70 to $259.10 depending on the length of time until license expiration). Mid-level providers (Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses) are only allowed to dispense complimentary starter doses (manufacturer or distributor samples) and must still obtain a drug control license. Advanced Practice Registered Nurses are not eligible for a Michigan controlled substance license. For more details, please review the Michigan statutes here. The license application can be found by going to www.michigan.gov/miplus, selecting MiPlus Login, selecting “Modification” next to your license number, and then selecting “Drug Control Application.”
