Physician dispensing is allowed in New York; however, providers are limited to dispensing no more than a 72-hour supply, with some exceptions, including if the provider is not charging the patient for the medication or where the practice is more than 10 miles from the nearest pharmacy. For more information, review the New York State pharmacy laws on dispensing, specifically the section titled “Exempt persons.” If you are considering dispensing controlled medications, please make sure you review the additional restrictions and requirements.
