Physicians in South Dakota may dispense medications to patients under their care but must first complete a controlled substances registration form and pay a small fee (currently $150). Nurse practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) may also dispense as long as it is expressly allowed by their supervising physician. You may find more information on registration and licensing requirements here. As always, all state and federal regulations must be followed when dispensing, including drug storage and labeling requirements.
